INGRID WEYER

“Art washes away from the soul the dust of everyday life.” --Pablo Picasso

"I love great art -- it feeds my soul.

And because I also believe, as Albert Einstein did, that “creativity is contagious”, I am painting for my own pleasure, hoping that in doing so, I may share some of that pleasure with you.

I strive to attain a small fraction of the beauty that all the great painters have given us and are still inspiring in us to achieve."

Ingrid Weyer started art classes as a little girl, attending the Art Centre in Skinner Street in Pretoria, South Africa, from 1954. There she was taught the very basics of painting by such great masters as Walter Batiss and George Boys.

In later years Ingrid travelled to Paris, France and was inspired by the Impressionists  in the Jeu de Paume and Quai D’Orsay.

The influence of the impressionists as well as the post impressionists -

Van Gogh, Cézanne, Picasso, Joaquin Sorolla, Modigliani and Irma Stern, can be seen in her work.

Living in the southern tip of Africa, it is also to be expected that nature and its million changing landscapes, the light, the rhythm and the vibrant colour of Africa, would bring life and joy to Ingrid's landscapes, her portraits and her interpretations of the world around her.

It is only recently, after her retirement from an active and productive career, that Ingrid took out her brushes and paints again, and rediscovered the pleasure of turning a blank canvas into a joyous work of art. She continues to learn, to experiment and to refine her skills. Ina Wilken from Vermont, Cape, and Ruth Walter from Clarens are two of her recent mentors.

Her preferred medium: Oils

Her art can be found in collections in France, the USA, Germany, Australia and South Africa.

Ingrid works from her studio in Pretoria, South Africa.
